American trenches on San Juan Hill
Date: March 9-15, 2005
Description: Reconstructed American entrenchments on San Juan Heights. These trenches were dug by the American troops during the investment of Santiago and prior to the Spanish surrender. The trenches were preserved with rock lining on one side and dedicated in 1928 during the war's 30th anniversary. The United Spanish War Veterans organization met in Havana that year, and members were at the trench dedication in 1928.
