Description: The first battle or skirmish U.S. troops had with the Spanish was at the small village of Las Guasimas. The Spanish defened the hills and the 1st U.S. Volunteer Cavalry and 10th U.S. Cavalry assaulted the Spanish positions and drove the defenders off in the first U.S. victory of the Spanish-Cuban-American War
